A saliva-based PCR test is a MOH-approved non-invasive COVID-19 test kit that helps determine whether you are COVID-19 positive or negative through the collection of saliva in a tube.
This test kit does not require the conventional swabbing of the back of your nose and mouth, thus reducing any discomfort or fear due to the swab being inserted through your nasal cavity.
This test is available to travellers departing from Singapore, and travelling to countries that accept saliva-based PCR test. Please check your destination country’s entry requirements before booking for the test.

As the procedure is non-invasive, the saliva-based PCR test is suitable for kids and the elderly. The same test can be administered for children and adults alike.
Do note that saliva-based PCR may not be suitable for kids under the age of 3, as they may not be able to produce adequate sputum for sample processing and testing. If our nurses are unable to obtain an adequate amount of saliva from your child during the sample collection procedure, they will do a standard PCR swab test as a backup.
For saliva-based PCR test, a nurse will be present to observe and ensure that your saliva collection technique is correct and adequate for the purpose of the saliva-based PCR test. During the procedure, if our nurses are unable to obtain an adequate amount of saliva they will also do a swab test as a backup.
For the standard PCR swab test, the nurse will be administering the swab for sample collection.
In the event that the nurse is unable to obtain an adequate sample for a saliva test during the procedure of collecting the saliva sample, our nurses will also do a swab test as a backup. We will perform a standard PCR test instead, at no additional charge.
According to a study of migrant workers in Singapore last year, saliva samples were actually more sensitive than nasal swab samples for diagnosing patients who are asymptomatic or have mild Covid-19 infection. Our laboratory partner Lucence has summarised the results from that study in this handy infographic.
