Three reasons why you should put health screening on your to-do list

By 28th April 2017 One Comment

Health screening plays an important role.

MyDoc, together with HPB and IHP, is providing the most cost-effective health screening in Singapore for SME employees
The life expectancy in Singapore is increasing by about three years per decade. However, higher life expectancy does also increase the period commonly known as the ‘disability years’. These generally refer to the years where the average person is more susceptible to disease and poor health due to age-related issues.
Those who suffer the worst are people with chronic illnesses – such as diabetes, high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, and cancer. Most of the time, these people are unaware of their conditions. This unawareness blocks the way for proper treatments leading to recovery.
So here are three reasons why you should consider getting yourself screened as soon as possible.
1. Allows for early disease detection and treatment
Some diseases do not show clear symptoms in early stages.
That is why 51.4% of the estimated 440,000 people with diabetes in Singapore are not even aware of their condition, and so are 26.3% of people with high blood pressure and 44.1% with high cholesterol level.
Over time without treatment or cure, these diseases will continue to worsen and may lead to heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, or even blindness. Early detection allows you to seek proper treatments and make lifestyle changes, to prevent much of these later conditions.
This works the same way for cancers too. Some cancers, such as colon cancer, are considered slow growing. Early detection can improve the chances of cure and recovery.
2. Promotes healthy lifestyle
Even when you look or feel healthy, doesn’t mean you are.
Chronic conditions can happen to anyone, no matter fat or thin, old or young, man or woman. Family history and unhealthy lifestyle, such as drinking and smoking, may increase your risk for chronic conditions too.
It is important to take health screening as a ‘reality check’ to expose potential risks. It helps determine what kind of lifestyle changes you need to make to stay healthy and improve your life quality.
3. More cost-effective
You can now get yourself screened for as low as $2.20
Going for a health screening will be cheaper than your future treatments for a chronic condition.
Other than the cost for health screening, some people are also concerned about the cost of treatment for any ailments found.
Think of it this way: the cost of care, including treatment and consultation, is going to continue to rise year by year. It is more cost effective to deal with the illness early, rather than going for advanced treatments in the future when the fees are higher.
………..
Speaking of cost-effective, did you know that now you can get yourself screened for as low as $2.20? If you book and conduct the health screening before 13th June, we’ll reduce that price to S$0.
